Orsi Academy offers a 1-day course in Robotic left-sided colonic resections and total mesorectal excision (TME) surgery for surgeons who want master the robotic surgery approach. With a strong focus on hands-on training, participants will optimize their technique through expert guidance and cadaver lab sessions.
The intensive 1-day course consists of a full day of hands-on training on human cadaveric tissue at Orsi Academy.
What you will learn
- The aim is to comprehensively cover robot techniques in left sided colonic resections
Prerequisites
- Familiarity with the robotic system’s buttonology and controls
- Hands-on bedside experience in robotic surgery
- Adequate simulator training to ensure technical proficiency
- Participation in up to 10 clinical cases involving robotic colon resection

Theoretical session: participants’ experience with da Vinci
Theoretical session: tips for getting through the learning curve
- Patient selection criteria
- Recommended procedures for initial cases
- Setting goals & tracking metrics
Theoretical session: OR set-up
- Port placement & patient positioning
- Adequate instrument selection & energy use
- Steps of the procedure: IMA ligation, IMV ligation, Splenic flexure mobilization, Pelvic dissection – posterior, anterior, and lateral, Division of mesentery – use of ICG, Robotic stapling and anastomosis
- Use of the 3rd arm for retraction
- Vascular control
- Management of complications
Hands-on training part I – human cadaver model
- Port placement and docking
- Left-sided colon resection
- IMA takedown
- Medial to lateral mobilization of colon
- Splenic flexure takedown

- Intra-operative adjustments (table motion, dual docking, port hopping)

Standard fee (incl. VAT)
Since this training is held in Belgium and Orsi Academy is the event organiser, Belgian VAT (currently 21%) must be charged on the participation fee, regardless of the participant’s country of establishment or VAT registration status.
The reverse charge mechanism does not apply to admission to physical events. Therefore, even EU VAT-registered businesses are subject to Belgian VAT for in-person training taking place in Belgium.
