We can proudly say that the first Healthcare Hackathon by Junior Orsi was a great success!
The 6 multidisciplinary teams delivered very promising ideas to facilitate the lives of people living with diabetes. This event proved that cross-curricular collaboration is the future of healthcare.
The group that became third received a assortment of regional food products provided by BNP Paribas Fortis België. They developed an intracorporeal device called "Beta-Sub", that links glucose monitoring to insulin release. In order to be able to incorporate sufficient doses, different compartments and bio-membranes are introduced.
On the second place we have "Glucom", an application that mainly targets young people with a recent DM diagnosis. They are encouraged through positive reinforcement to deal with the disease healthier and more consciously. A discount/payment system was developed through various relevant partners (catering, shops, etc.). They received locally produced wine, also provided by BNP Paribas Fortis België.
Finally the winner is "Di-App-etes", a mobile platform that sets up a personalized patient model through various lifestyle information channels, which are often already present on the patient's smartphone. It enables them to provide more evidence-based advice on insulin administration with a self-learning algorithm. The winning group will visit the corporate office of Medtronic in Switzerland and will receive three coaching sessions by BlueHealth Innovation Center.
